News for September!

Another great reading period is upon us. How quickly we moved into autumn! We’ve just had a wonderful Culture Night with the shop packed with literature lovers and authors. If you missed it you can watch the videos now posted on our web site www.bookshop.se!

Books of the Month for September! Our freshest choices!

Fiction: Dual choice: for the subscribers we are doing A. S. Byatt - Ragnarok: a masterful book from Bookwer winning author Byatt in Canongate's Myths series, which weaves together a retelling of Norse myths with an autobiographical tale of a girl growing up in wartime Yorkshire.

And since we didn’t have any reading groups in July we will meet and discuss Tom Perrotta’s intriguing The Leftovers: What if the Rapture happened? The bewildered citizens of Mapleton have lost over 100 people to this ”Sudden Departure”. In this story, Perotta illuminates a familiar America made strange by grief and apocalyptic anxiety.

British Crime: Benjamin Black - A Death in Summer. John Banville using his crime pen-name to write this spellbinding tale of Doctor Quirke and Inspector Hackett. Granted: this takes place in Ireland so we had to expand the concept of British Crime to encompass all of the British Isles. We’re keeping the definition that way.

Non-fiction: Izzeldin Abuelaish - I Shall Not Hate. An extraordinary autobiography of a Gaza doctor.

Tough Crime: Steve Hamilton - Misery Bay. Mr Hamilton writes wonderful dark stories set in the Great Lakes district. This one may be his best one yet!

Fantasy: Blake Charlton - Spellwright. An original and engaging debut set in a fantasy world where language holds extraordinary power

Science Fiction: Ian Douglas - Bloodstar. The first part of a new military SF series . In the 23rd century war is still hell...

Paranormal: Richard Kadrey - Sandman Slim. First in a new gritty much loved series by a terrific author.
