Twenty one years ago... 

...on the 18th day of the dark month of November, a small bookshop opened up in the loft of an old tannery by the river Fyris in Uppsala.

Today two bookshops serve a community of booklovers in two cities. This is cause for celebration! 21% OFF ON EVERYTHING in both our bookshops on Friday 18th and Saturday 19th November.

Tao Lin is an American novelist, poet, essayist, short-story writer, and artist. He has published three novels, several books of poetry, short stories and novellas. His latest novel is Taipei, now being published in Swedish by Constant Reader. In it, New Yorker Paul navigates between the art and literary scenes of Manhattan, and Taipei in Taiwan, confronting his family roots.

Tao Lin is considered one of the main figures of the literary movement called Alt Lit, where social media and internet are used as tools for writing, publishing and literary talks.

Tao Lin will be in conversation with poet and writer Elis Burrau, literary editor at Nöjesguiden.

Many of us love writing, but do not for some reason want to go through the mills of literary agents and orinary publishing houses. In these cases self publishing might be an answer! 

Do join us when David Clapham, author of two novels, gives a short talk on the pros and cons of being an writer without a literary agent, and the pleasures and pains of self publishing. 

After this there will be a release party for his latest book: The Special and the Ordinary. Refreshments and signing afterwards!

Satisfy your curiosity as well as your longing for storytelling when Sara Lilja Visén and Stina Björkelid guide you through the history of Hallowe’en, with the help of stories and poems from days of yore to present days.

How about some haunting horror for Halloween? Join our horrific suspenseful theme reading group in the Uppsala bookshop. 

Together with Helena Dahlgren (author of 100 Hemskaste) we’ll talk about Shirley Jackson’s The Haunting of Hill House (and other scary things). Nice cuppa’ tea and some delicious cake as usual. Book is in stock, sign up at the bookshop and book your seat (limited number of participants).

Ever wondered how a podcast is made? Join us in the bookshop for a ”live” recording of the wonderful Swedish book podcast ”En förbannad podd – en podd om böcker och andra tidsfördriv” by Sofia and Katta.

Come join us on Wednesday 26th October from 17:00 to celebrate the one year anniversary of the podcast. We will celebrate the anniversary with drinks and snacks and a special recording of the podcast live from our cosy bookshop. Live podcasting from 17:30.

Why do some things scare me but they don’t scare my friend? What are you scared of? Being swept out to sea? Going on a trip? Losing something? 

At story time on Saturday 22 October we’ll hear about how sometimes scary things aren’t that scary after all.

Welcome all 3–6 year olds for storytelling in the Uppsala bookshop!

Do you want to write the next bestseller? There’s a trend in new novels: the word girl is in their titles. The 'Girl' in the title is more than a marketing or branding trend, but also another writing voice. We will explore this voice and writing technique with 4 novels as well as the writing you will do in this creative writing workshop with James van Loon.
